The Getaway Car Caper

The initial idea for getting an RV and traveling across the continental US and Canada arose about five years ago as one of John’s many capers β€” a grand idea (bordering on the ridiculous) that becomes more grandiose as it develops and is acted upon in the fullness of time.

Once the caper is fully evolved, execution on it happens quickly. Hence, John stated on Jan 1 2024 that we would have an RV by the end of January. Mind you, we had not looked at the market for them recently so we were effectively starting from ground zero in our hunt, and the search was open to anywhere in the country. Oh, and during this time we were in the middle of watching our grand pug, Peanut, for five months.

Luckily, embarking on this caper only took us 900 miles πŸ™„to Loves Park, IL to pick up the RV from a very nice gentleman, Charles, who sold it to us.

Picking up the RV meant having to find a place to board Peanut, get a flight to Chicago, take an hour long bus ride to Loves Park, book a hotel for the night, meet Charles the next morning, get a three hour overview of how to use the RV, and then start driving it 900 miles back to Charlotte. The best part of the trip back was getting to have our first experience at a Buc-ee’s.
